In my recent post No Delay, Start Today, I promised that I’ll post some ideas on books to read this summer.
Here is my first one: What the Bible Says About Healthy Living by Rex Russell
I’ve never been much into fitness or nutrition up to a certain point in my life — during my pregnancy I became more interested in nutrition and later on in exercising my body.
The book I’m talking about today wasn’t published until years later and I didn’t discover it until just a few years ago. I wished I would have found it sooner —
As moms we want our children to grow up healthy, don’t we? We desire for our family to eat right and so we have to know what to shop for and what to cook, right?
This book is not a cookbook. However, it will give you a good idea what to put on your table and what to avoid. Now, let me warn you: It will not be easy to change the diet! For some food items you might search quite a while or find that they are more expensive — but, in the long run, it’ll well be worth it!
After a foreword and the preface called Check Your Health IQ, the introduction is followed by three parts:
- Part I: If We Were Created Perfect, Why Are We Sick?
- Part II: The Three Principles
- Part III: Dinner
Part I reveals some examples of what can happen when we ignore the truth found in God’s Word. Rex Russell shows examples in real life and connects them with biblical truth. He not only throws in a Bible verse here and there, but obviously knows the context in which they were written. He urges his readers to take another look at the laws he mentioned: “… not for the spiritual purposes of salvation or sanctification… (but) for the purpose of glorifying God through acknowledging His desire and design for our health.”
Part II explains The Three Principles (Eat the Foods God Created for You; Don’t Alter God’s Design; Don’t Let Any Food or Drink Become Your God) in detail.
Part III will give you more information about what to put on your menu list and what to avoid.
