I’ve read an article the other day about Why God gave the law. It argued that the only reason for God to establish the law was to show us that we cannot be good enough to reach His standard.
But did God only give the law to show that we cannot keep it? True, keeping the law will not get us into heaven — how to get to heaven is not my point here. My question is: Was this His only reason to give us laws? Or, could it be that many of them were established for our own good?
Nobody would argue that a traffic rule like having to stop at a red light was only set to show us something but not for the safety of us and others. Then why do we argue of whether or not God’s rules are for our own good and safety?
Again, keeping the law to get into heaven is not the issue here. My point is that God has established so many common sense rules we would be smart to follow them — not to get into heaven, not to show we are so good, but because we love Him and because they are for our own good.
Examples will follow shortly — Stay tuned.
