Praise God Continually and in all Cirumstances

I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Psalm 34:1

How easy it is to praise God when things are well for us, isn’t it? Sadly that’s also a time when we are tempted not to nourish our gratefulness. Is it because we are taking things and people for granted? Maybe. Could it also be because we are deceiving ourselves thinking that we deserve to have the things and people in our lives?

On the other side, how easy is it to despair in times of trouble. Our minds are out of tune with God. We keep thinking of problems and the desperate situation we are in. Then it becomes harder and harder to focus on the LORD. We are ready to fall because we are keeping our sorrows continually before us (Psalm 38:17). This is no time to give up hope and question God’s mercy — even if unbelievers are challenging us and asking us where our God is (Psalm 42:3).

Praise God

In times of trouble praising God does not come naturally to us. It “doesn’t make sense” for humans to sing and praise God while all around us worrisome things are happening. Listen, beloved, praise works! That’s why we need to remind ourselves to praise God continually and in all circumstances.

Let’s start (again) by singing a short hymn of praise to God!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. It takes about 20 seconds to sing a verse of this short hymn. What a perfect “hourglass” while washing our hands. And, imagine how many times a day, out of the mouth of people all around the globe, praises would rise up to the LORD God the Almighty!

Don’t know this hymn or need the lyrics and notes for it? You will find it at Praise God, from whom all blessings flow ( — Tip: Download the mp3 and have it playback while washing your hands.
