How to Survive Something Like This — Part 3

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?

My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.

The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Psalm 121

LORD Jesus, we praise You for Your everlasting Love and what You have done for us on the Cross. If it wouldn’t have been for You we would die and never be with God the Father again. Help us to look to You and to stay near the Cross. Remind us, O LORD, that You do understand because You know what it means to be alone and to suffer. Forgive us that we so often forget this. Guide us and keep us in Your Word and on the right way until we reach our final home to spend all eternity with You. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

Remember what I have said in: How to Survive Something Like This — Part 1?

“The past few days were some of the hardest in my life. This rollercoaster ride of emotions was tense. Having to stay alone at home wasn’t as bad as not being able to be with the one that needed my attention the most during this time. Waving goodbye as the ambulance left, I had to let him go. Trusting that the LORD Jesus would be right there for him wasn’t easy to do.”

Don’t despair. There is HELP!

You’ll Need Jesus, Exercise, and a Small Circle of Sisters in Christ

I knew I had to keep my focus on Jesus and so do you, precious sister in Christ! Something else I did was to start to do more physical exercise to stay in good mental health. And I needed to pick a few of my girls from church who I would feel comfortable with to share my lows and highs. You might wrestle with that at first. Don’t worry about it. I did, too. My small circle of sisters in Christ turned out to be such a blessing to me!

You’ll Need a Good Cry. Seriously!

Some of the most healing moments I was going through were times of crying my heart out. Here is a serious question for you to think about: What will help you to cry? Of course, you’ll still need to be strong and hold back your tears most of the time; but you will also need a time when you can freely let these tears run down your cheeks.

For me it was a certain song that triggered my tears. I listened to it while going for a walk and in need of a good cry. Some of its words reminded me that even though this time of my life is a dark time I know that I’m not forsaken and that my Saviour is here right beside me.

You’ll Need a Snack Now and Then

One of my sisters kept reminding me that I have to have some snacks. I didn’t feel like eating. There was no way I could have eaten a meal. The last things I would have thought about were snacks. But, my girl was right!

For me it was oranges. Choose a fruit which you can eat anytime and anywhere — while out and about or while reading a book. Something light and juicy worked well for me. What works for you?

You’ll Need to Stay Close to the LORD

The best encouragement and healing words will always come from Christ Jesus. Draw near to Him. Seek His strength and comfort and peace each and every day. Yes, stay in His Word, but not so much for the daily task. If you’ve missed reading a portion of Scripture, don’t worry about it. The most important thing right now is that whatever you are facing will drive you into the Arms of Jesus and not for you to be or stay strong. Face the challenge in His Strength and not in your own.

Remember: He who keeps you will not slumber. God is with you!
