Sabbath Delight — Part 1

“If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the LORD honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,
Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
The mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Isaiah 58:13-14

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You have made everything beautiful in its time. All things were made by You and through You and for You. What a blessing it is to have a day of rest. Help us, O God we pray, to dedicate this special day to You and to delight in Your rest. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

We began to set aside one day of the week to celebrate Sabbath. That happened nearly two decades ago.

During the first few years we used to avoid talking much about it. That was mainly due to the fact that whenever we mentioned it to friends or family they misunderstood our motivation behind it. Some of our friends would even accuse us of being legalistic or having lost the true meaning of Jesus’ coming.

When we are “under pressure” we have to be careful not to give up or hide our belief from others. These are the times when we need to study God’s Word even the more. Trials will come and our faith will be tested through them. (James 1:2-8)

Remember our friends in yesterday’s post? Last year they had planned to get ready for winter, but the installation of the heaters did not happen. It wasn’t their fault, though. The landlord wasn’t diligent enough to fulfill her part of the contract. One way to handle trials is to complain to God. Another way of facing them is to ask: “What does God want me to learn and do in all of this?”

Precious sister, if God puts something specifically on your heart for you to observe, study, or do: pray about it often, study His Word diligently and whole-heartily, and trust Him to lead you on the way that you should go.
