Leaving Behind and Moving Forward

Brethren,
I do not count myself to have apprehended;
but one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind
and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
I press toward the goal
for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14

LORD Jesus we praise You for by You all things were created. They were created through You and for You. And You are before all things, and all things consist in You. Hallelujah! Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we hold on tight to something that we need to let go. Enable us to fully trust in You and to be content with what You have in store for us. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

Moving

I have done a few major moves in my life. Beside all the little ones within my native country, I have moved from Germany to the US, and back again. And in 2010 my hubby and I moved to Ireland.

Leaving Things Behind

Small moves are nothing compared to a move overseas. We left most of what we had behind. Some of our things were sold by online auction, others have found new homes with friends and family, and some of the stuff just got recycled or landed in the bin. There were many things that we had to just let go and then move on! Guess what? While taking the step and packing up, getting ready to emigrate and starting a new life in another country, many of our material burdens had become lighter.

Forgetting Things Behind

True, it is quite hard to part with some of the things we own. And, yes, it does take courage to throw out or give away one or the other thing which is attached to loving memories of the good ol’ days. If we want to move forward, however, we will have to let go of certain things — otherwise will these very things become burdens which will keep us from reaching the goal.

What is it that has you in its grip? Are there any things that have you tied up? Could you let them go? Easily? Sort them through, leave them behind, forget the things, and reach forward.

Press toward the goal today.
