to be discreet,
obedient to their own husbands,
that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
LORD Jesus, we praise You this day for bringing us together so that we can have fellowship with one another and encourage one another to stand firm in Your Word. Help the older women of us to guide the younger ones in their walk. Let the younger women hear and learn from the older women who are rooted and grounded in Your Word. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
Discreet and chaste stand well together; many expose themselves to fatal temptations by that which at first might be but indiscretion.
READ — Today’s Verse
to be discreet, CHASTE, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
ENGAGE — Words and their meanings
Look up the word using various dictionaries. I would suggest that you begin by looking up the original (Greek) word in Strong’s (G53).
It is ἁγνός or hagnos meaning chaste, clean, innocent, modest, pure.
APPLY — Tell the Truth
Chaste is often misunderstood. Its meaning is overemphasized in one way and belittled in another way. Some things said about it are not true.
Overemphasis. Many would say that another word for it would be celibate and that’s it. Not so! It is is true that, according to God’s Word, only the husband and wife are allowed to share the bed and touch each other in affection. The ones who are not married to each other are to refrain from it. However, the husband as well as the wife, should not (unless sufficient reason given) deprive one another (1 Corinthians 5:1-7).
Belittled. On the other side, chaste in regard to conversation is often far from being emphasized. Our language needs to be pure and not corrupt.
In other words, do teach the young women about both: sexual purity and pure language.
If God has placed a young woman into your care and you do have her trust please do talk about this subject with her. Modesty is such an important issue in regard to marriage, conversation, and her clothing.
Pray and let God’s Word be your Guide today!
