to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
LORD Jesus, we praise You for Your Word. Thank You that You have called us and made us Your children. Guide us in our walk that the Word of God may not be blasphemed. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
READ — Today’s verse again:
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, THAT THE WORD OF GOD MAY NOT BE BLASPHEMED.
ENGAGE — The word of God must not be blasphemed
Whose child are you? What are you known for?
When I was growing up my parents owned a gas station. Sometimes noticable things happened in the area where children were involved. Guess who would be recognized immediately? “The girl from the gas station was with them,” they said. Well, that was great whenever something good had happened; however, it was not so much appreciated whenever something bad had happened.
Whose child do we claim to be? Are we God’s children? Is He our Father? What are — and what should — Christians be known for?
What do we fill our cups with? What kind of books are we reading, and what kind of TV shows are we watching? Where and with whom or what do we spend most of our time with? In other words, what is is that will spill out whenever someone meets us?
Of course we are not perfect (yet).
What had been true, however, in the days of the Israelites of the Old Testament is still true in our day: the ones outside the camp are watching the ones inside the camp. We can make such a difference in this world. We must never forget that. What effect do our actions have on the people we meet?
APPLY — Consistent Lives
Throughout this Letter, Paul is conscious of the reproach brought upon the Lord’s cause by the inconsistent lives of His people.
Believer’s Bible Commentary
How easy it is to slip and to let things go. Is it the way we wash our clothes or the way we park our cars? Then this is not such a serious matter. Once we claim to be children of God, however, and do not follow what the LORD requires of us in His Word, our testimony becomes useless.
Again, of course, we are not perfect (yet).
DO — Teach the importance of the Word of God
Our lives should be testimonies of who God is and what He is able to do in our lives and in the lives of others.
What is it then that we as women need to learn and teach?
1 Seek the LORD while He may be found.
2 Repent of your sins — the known and the unknown.
3 Study His Word diligently to know what He requires of you.
