God Gives the Increase

Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
Then the earth shall yield her increase;
God, our own God, shall bless us.
God shall bless us,
And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

Psalm 67:5-7

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You are the Creator of everything. Help us to diligently sow the seeds and to water them regularly. Enable us to take tender care of the young plants and to give them support as needed. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

God created everything including seeds which we can sow. We may plant and water them, but it is God who makes them grow and who gives the increase.

Praise God for the Seed

Springtime is here! I love this season. How about you? Have you noticed the many spring flowers and the newly formed buds lately? I love tulips, and I can hardly wait to see them stand tall and bloom. What are some of your favorite spring-blooming flowers?

This is the perfect time to plant again. What are you planning to sow this year? How about some edible flowers and/or a couple of veggies? Beans, for example, are quite easy to grow, and so are radishes.

Yes, gardening is hard work, but so are many other tasks — like learning, sewing, writing. The soil needs to be prepared, the seeds have to be sown, and the plants must be watered. Depending on the individual fruit, special care and extra steps have to be taken. Hard work and time are not the only things invested, some gardeners also spend a lot of their money in specific kind of seeds, composts, fertilizers, and supplies to protect their plants. Is it all worth it? This will depend on our own roots.

Praise God for Grace

Do we believe that we will reap the fruit because of our own doing — because we have sown the “right” seeds and taken good care of the plants? What for would we need God then? Grace!

You see, every seed we are holding in our hands reminds us of God’s Creation, yes, but also of man’s fall. Even the best compost is not pure perfection anymore:

Sin first laid a curse on the soil, and grace alone can remove it.

Charles H. Spurgeon (The Treasury of David)

Praise God for the Blessing

Okay, let’s say the soil has been well prepared, the seeds have been sown, the plants have been taken care of, and we waited for God to give the increase. We were blessed. Then it is time to cheerfully share with others what God has so graciously given into our hands.

Be a cheerful giver today.
