God’s Word In Your Heart

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!
You shall love the LORD your God
with all your heart
with all your soul
and with all your strength.
And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children,
and shall talk of them,
when you sit in your house,
when you walk by the way,
when you lie down,
and when you rise up.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand,
and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You are the Almighty God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth and everything in it. You are above all, for by You all things were created; they were created through You and for You. Forgive us, O LORD we pray, whenever we forget that we were created—not for ourselves—but for You and for Your glory. Guide us, O God, to seek and think of You. Help us to love You with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our strength. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.

Today’s verses are part of my “Bible Verses Memory” book. They have become so dear to me during a time when we had no local church to go to, and we were a part of an online church community. By the way, that was many years before 2020, before anyone would have ever thought of congregations having to meet online instead of in their church building.

I have heard Deuteronomy 6:4-9 quoted to us over and over and over again. Each Sunday, right after the last worship song, our Pastor’s wife read them to us. Sometimes her voice came across quite firm, while at other times she quoted the verses in a trembling voice. I still remember one of the Sundays when she sounded like she would start to cry any minute. It was almost as if I could hear her heart pleading with us: “Listen! Listen to what God is telling you, and put His Word in your heart.”

Daily Bible reading and/or memorizing the Word of God are powerful weapons to make His words sink into your heart.
