Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
LORD Jesus we praise You for You are the Light of the world, the world that You have created. Forgive us, O precious LORD we pray, whenever we neglect to bear witness of You and Your wondrous works. Help us to spread the Word. Give us opportunities to tell others what You have done for us—and what You are able to do for them. Let us grow in the fear of You. Give us knowledge and wisdom and the ability to declare Your mighty acts. In Jesus’ wonderful name we pray. Amen.
“This little light of mine, I”m gonna let it shine…” 🎵
Do you know that song? It’s a lovely song, isn’t it? We would probably not sing it in church, well, maybe in Sunday school, but not necessarily during worship time. Have you ever watched some little ones sing it, though? And, if there were adults present, did you observe how they were happily singing along, too?
The song contains good advice (e.g. not to hide it, not to let the devil blow it out). With our age, though, our eyesight—including our spiritual one—might become poor.
Some of you—who are older and are now having to wear glasses to read—might notice, that during wintertime your eyesight seems to get worse. Have you tried to read without glasses again in bright light and during the summer months? Give it a try, if you have not yet done so.
Man has always tried to make the best out of life—in this dark world. He invented and created oil lamps, candles, and, in our day and age, light bulbs that offer the brightest of lights ever. This kind of light is still an “unnatural” one, though. It does not even come close to the one that the Creator has made and provided for us: the pure sunlight.
All the light sources that man can provide on this earth cannot compare to the Source of true Light. They can only give us a glimpse of light, and once the light is gone due to lost resources, there is only one thing left: darkness!
Why would we, who know the true Light, want to follow and/or offer a powerless and temporary light to a broken world?
Press on, right where you are, and point men to the Light today.
