Know that the LORD,
He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Psalm 100:3
LORD Jesus, we praise You for You have made us. You are above us all. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we neglect to acknowledge that You are Maker, Creator, and, most importantly, Owner of all. Enable us to believe and trust that we are Your people. Open our eyes and let us see, precious LORD, that we are walking on a pasture that You have made, a pasture that belongs to You. Help us to live our lives so that we may give You all the glory for what You have made, for what You are so graciously willing to give Your people, and for all the times that You are right there to guide us and to direct every step we are taking. We praise You, LORD. In Jesus’ wonderful name we pray. Amen.
Hear, His people, and know. Know that Christ the LORD is God. Hallelujah!
Know that the LORD,
He is God;
These first seven words of Psalm 100 and verse 3 are so very rich and powerful. What is the first word that starts off the sentence?
_____ that the LORD,
Knowing the LORD, and who He is, is vital for life on earth as well as for eternity.
Hosea 4:6 says that God’s people were destroyed for lack of knowledge. What an awful thought! The people rejected God and forgot the law of Him, so God warned them that He would also forget them and their children.
Let’s read the next part of today’s verse. (Fill in the blank, please.)
Know that the LORD,
_____ is God.
Who is God? More importantly, who or what are we in love with? God or the gods we have made ourselves? If we go back to Hosea 4 for a moment and continue our reading in verse 12, we will find out that the people asked counsel from the wooden (dead, non-living) idols that they had made. These people had a very wrong spirit that had caused them to stray. They provoked their God to become jealous.
Know that the LORD is God: His Word tells you all about Himself and what He requires of you. We need to love Him:
You shall love the LORD your God
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
and with all your strength.
Deuteronomy 6:5 (see also Deuteronomy 11, 13, 30, Joshua 22 and 23, Psalm 31, Psalm 97, Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27)
The LORD does not ask for sacrifices and burnt offerings. He desires mercy and the knowledge of Him (Hosea 6:6). Another Bible passage, found in Micah 6:8, tells us what the LORD requires of us: do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
Do you love the LORD your God today?
