To Whom We Belong

Know that the LORD,
He is God;
It is He who has made us,
and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Psalm 100:3

LORD Jesus, we praise You for You have made us, and we are Your people and the sheep of Your pasture. Forgive us, O God we pray, whenever we long to be anything else but Yours. Enable us to love You more and more, to trust and obey Your Word, and to daily and earnestly seek You with all our heart and mind and soul and strength. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen

In the blog post Who Is God? we read the first part of Psalm 100:3

Know that the LORD,
He is God;

We talked about the importance of knowing the LORD, what He requires of us, and our need to love Him above anyone and anything else.

Today’s blog continues with verse 3 of Psalm 100 which says:

It is He who has made us,
and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

This second part of Psalm 100:3 is just as important. It answers two of the most asked questions in life:

1. Who has made us? (and, Who has not made us?)
2. To whom do we belong?

Let’s fill in the blanks to find out where we are coming from:

It is _____ who has made us,
and not _____ _____.

Beloved, to know where we have come from and where we have not come from, is so vital for our spiritual life. And so is the answer to the question, Whom do we belong to?

Let’s fill in the blanks to find the answer:

We are _____ people
 and the sheep of _____ pasture.

I just love the following expression of Matthew Henry commenting on this Psalm.

The matter of praise, and motives to it, are very important. Know you what God is in himself and what he is to you.

This reminds me of what my former pastor used to ask each person that was about to be baptized in our church:

“Who is Jesus to you?”

Think of it, what would you answer him?

Know who God is and to whom you belong today.
