LORD Jesus, we praise You for You are our Creator, Savior, and Provider. You are not only closer than a brother, but You are the One we belong to. Hallelujah! Looking into Bible commentaries, we will find quite a few different interpretations of this verse. To avoid much confusion, I’m not going to quote them within today’s blog; actually, none except one, which you will find a little further down the post.
What a joy it is to watch our children growing up, while they are being filled with the knowledge of the Father’s Will, walking worthy of the LORD, pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.
What a heartache it is, however, to watch our children making wrong turns, being lazy, and not listening to instructions that would lead them to wisdom and understanding.
True, we have to remember that Salvation is of the LORD and not of the Christian family. God is the One who is calling sinners to repent and to turn to Him for Salvation. He is the One who knows each one of us, and He alone is able to change the heart of our children for good.
Having said that, however, we do have a command which has been given to us by God and which tells us to teach our children diligently — when we sit in our house, when we walk by the way, when we lie down, and when we rise up (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
God’s Word also says that the virtuous woman, found in Proverbs 31, provides food for her household, that her household is clothed with scarlet, and that she watches over her household.
Yes, there may be a time for a woman to go into the field to provide food for herself and for others (Ruth 2), but there is also a time when the wife and mother of the family is much needed at home.
So, here is the quote I was talking about a little earlier on. Listen to how one of the commentators concludes this verse:
Let no one think that because woman’s ministry is private and in the home that it is any less important than that which is more public. It has been truly said: “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” In a coming day, at the Judgment Seat of Christ, it is faithfulness that will count, and this is something which can be exhibited in the home as well as in the pulpit.
