Then Pilate said to Him,
“Are You not speaking to me?
Do You not know that I have power to crucify You,
and power to release You?”
Jesus answered,
“You could have no power at all against Me
unless it had been given you from above.
(John 19:10-11)
LORD Jesus, we praise You, for You are the mighty Counselor. We thank You for the Holy Spirit who is the great Comforter to His people. Forgive us, O God, we pray, whenever we forget that You are the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. Help us, precious LORD Jesus, and comfort us in all of our tribulations, so we will be able to comfort others with the comfort that we have received from You. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.
Pain and Sorrow
You are uncomfortable, in great pain, and disappointed in people and how things turned out. It looks like the dark side has won, and there is no one to help you. The situation seems hopeless. Will God come to your rescue, and if so, when?
The Need for Comfort
You are longing for your hardship to end. Where will you find the comfort and strength to endure? What is the meaning behind all of this? Does God care?
Hope and Comfort Those Who Are In Trouble
Maybe you are not the one who needs help, but your help and comfort are needed by someone else? Will you be able to reach out to meet that need?
C. H. Spurgeon writes,
There is no cordial of comfort like that which is poured from the bottle of Scripture.
Unless Given From Above
Let us read today’s verses again,
Then Pilate said to Him,
“Are You not speaking to me?
Do You not know that I have power to crucify You,
and power to release You?”
Jesus answered,
“You could have no power at all against Me
unless it had been given you from above.
(John 19:10-11)
These verses are so powerful. You see, Pilate thought that the power was his. He believed that he could decide the outcome of the situation. In his mind, he was completely in charge of whether Christ was about to be crucified or be given freedom to go.
These two verses also tell us that no one but God is, remains, and always will be in power. He is the One who is fully in charge, no matter what. He is God Almighty, and His is the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Beloved, it is so important—vital for us—to stay in the Word. God still speaks. Yes, He does.
Read your Bible and know that God is in control today.
